Where to Play Chess
This replaces an earlier page I wrote, in which my intent was to list upcoming tournaments.
Instead, I’m going to list some resources to find tournaments and clubs at.
For Tournaments:
Illinois Chess Association
United States Chess Federation
For Clubs in General:
Illinois Chess Association Affiliates Listing
United States Chess Federation
Inidividual Clubs (in Central-ish Illinois unless otherwise listed):
Bloomington-Normal, Twin City Chess Club, meets at Colley’s Chess Cafe, Monday evenings 7PM.
Greater Peoria Chess Federation – Peoria, IL.
Route 20 Chess Club – Freeport, IL.
Decatur Chess Club – Decatur, IL
Springfield Chess Club – Springfield, IL
In Champaign there is CU64 (apparently their website isn’t functional at this writing,) which has teamed up somewhat with the Illini Chess Club at the University.
Evanston Chess – Evanston, IL.
Playing Online:
There are lots of options available for online play. Here I am listing just a couple of options that are completely free – nothing to pay at any time for full access to playing.
Free Internet Chess Server (FICS): Online Live Play
International Email Chess Club: For free correspondence chess via email.
