Let’s Play Catchup!

Up until this weekend the weather has been very bitter – a very late winter (had snow on the day before Spring started,) and temps in the 30s and low 4os, with nighttime lows in the 20s, nearly constantly since.  This was the first decent weekend in quite some time, after a long week of rain and flooding in Peoria and along the Mackinaw.

No photos from today’s White Oak trip – caught nothing.  Windy and high 40′s/low 50′s ish.   By midafternoon it was low sixties and the wind finally went away, but I was home already.

So, I took some time to catch up the blog.  I was surprised to see that my last post was from last April!  It helps to keep things up if one is going to keep up a blog.  So the afternoon through this evening was spent getting it caught up.  A whole lot of photos transferred from camera and iPhone later, posts writing and uploaded (thank God that WordPress is a lot easier to work with in creating galleries, etc.) and here we are at last.

Tipton Park – April 20, 2013 (Sat)

A cool Saturday at Tipton.  Temps would have been nice if it weren’t for the wind.  Spots of cloud and sun – the sun sure felt good when it came out!

Tried all three concrete spots.  Only took one Crappie, near the fountain, casting toward the east weedline.  Very beautiful and fat, just about ready to spawn.  Caught it on a Gulp Alive! cricket – can’t seem to find either the chartreuse fry which worked so well last year, nor the waxies which weren’t so popular.

Very nice and was grateful for it!

Miller Park – April 14, 2013 (Sun)

Miller Park time.  The water level is still very low, and it is still cold and windy.  (One can actually walk at the base of the retaining wall on what should be 3 feet of water.)  Tried the corner near the roundabout, natch.  Came back around to the paddleboat rental and bagged two small ones (including a trout…)

That said, a big thank you to the City of Bloomington for their re-doing the parkway, with a beautiful new sidewalk-style top to the retaining wall, from the paddleboats to the bridge.  Very nice benches, too, to replace the picnic table that idiots kept throwing into the water.

When I say 'little', that's what I mean. ;)

Tipton Park – April 7, 2013

My first day out of the season on April 7th.  Weather has been flatly lousy…  winter arrived very late this year and stayed on into Spring.

At Tipton I managed to catch two Crappie, bang-bang…  nothing before or after.  Took a lot of photos of the two of them, though.  :)

White Oak Park, Sep. 8, 2012 (Sat)

I need to look back at the climate data, but I recall things grew cold early.  (Though snow wouldn’t happen for quite awhile.)  These are the last photos I have for the 2012 season, and it wouldn’t surprise me that this was the last time I went out.  I’d been out at least 13 times this season, and it was a good one.  (Had I knew that it would be next April before I’d start getting out again, maybe I’dve pushed it later.  And it is possible that I went out more without taking pictures.)  But anyway, here’s the last of the season…

Last of the year Bluegills at White Oak.

Evergreen Lake, August 18th, 2012 (Sat)

It has been a couple of weeks, and today this is now bittersweet memory.  It’s my last fishing day with Jerry before they move.  I was hopping back and forth, casting for a very few Bluegill and panfish.  Jerry was his usual methodical with nightcrawlers, and there was one Bass that didn’t disappoint!  It was a pleasant afternoon, 2ish to 4:00 PM.  And although I miss my immediate family, these are good memories…

Miller Park, July 27, 2012 (Fri)

A Friday evening at Miller Park.  Stayed into dark for the first (and only?) time this season (7:30ish to 9:00ish PM), so we get a flash photo of the last fish I caught.  :)

Dark but the fish are still biting!

Rains coming and going, and then a most beautiful rainbow, which I don’t have anyplace else to chronicle… :)

Heartland Community College, July 21, 2012 (Sat)

Another day, more fishing to do!  At least on Saturday morning at 9:15 AM at Heartland.  And the fish were there from 9:21 to 9:47 – a nice string one after the other, then a slowdown.

And the fish do respond! *VERY* happy to have caught this one!

Miller Park, July 14, 2012 (Sat)

Ten days after July 4th (where Miller Park has fireworks that traumatize the fish — only kidding!) I went down in the evening for a little fishing.  Around 8 PM there were some Bluegill biting.

A picture perfect evening for some pictures of Bluegill!
