Peoria Winter Tornado – Jan. 29, 2011

The Greater Peoria Chess Federation is running it’s annual Winter Tornado tournament on January 29, 2011. This is probably the biggest out-of-town tournament that Bloomington area residents attend annually.

Nobody confirmed as going yet, however, carpooling opportunities usually abound for this one!

It is not definite yet, but I am strongly considering going to the Peoria Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011 and would like to carpool. I can certainly pay gas money to help out.

  2. I just figured out that I will not be able to attend this year. *sigh*

But last year’s was very fun! Here’s hoping for next year!

  3. A person by the name of David Kramer asked the question, “Where do we get the information from?”

I’ve had to delete the comment from the pending queue because of spam potential (folks, don’t post commercial non-chess related links as your website… It will get it tagged as spam, every time.) Akimset is just too good at spotted spam, and I’m just too good at protecting the blog from same.

But it is a fair question and possibly fairly intended, so…

Tournament information comes from four sources.

First, the Illinois Chess Association website lists upcoming open tournaments at: http://www.il-chess.org/index.php?option=com_eventlist&view=categoryevents&id=2&Itemid=84

Second, the United States Chess Federation also has a tournament listing service. http://main.uschess.org/component/option,com_wrapper/Itemid,199/

Third, I get emails from other organizers sometimes, wondering if we will list their tournaments. The answer generally is yes, depending on if it seems at all likely that it will be of interest to our club members. It is virtually absolutely yes if it seems at all likely that our club might want to go in groups of members.

Finally, our club members may bring up upcoming tournaments and we’ll post them online.

So, thanks for the question, David, even if I couldn’t approve the comment!
