January 2, 2011 – 2011 Illinois Kick-Off, DeKalb

Our first attempt led us to turn around in the middle of a blizzard, but our friends at the DeKalb chess club ran the first tournament of 2011 in Illinois.

Ray, Darren, Mike, Niranjan, and Hanson  headed up there on Sunday, January 2.

Darren blogged live from the event.  The post is at http://laughingvulcan.org/blog/2011/01/02/blogging-live-from-dekalb/

More information is behind the cut, and crosstable and photos will be published as quickly as we can get them up.

We will also have at least one other club member at the event.  (Barring a bigger blizzard than the one we went through before.)  We will be leaving Bloomington about 9 A.M. and we have room for one or two more people.  We intend to be back in Bloomington not later than 8:30 PM, and sooner depending on final round results and road conditions.

(Tourn. EF is $8.00 for 4 rounds – you won’t find a better offer!  We intend on splittling gas, and lunch/dinner is on your own – there’s a snackies shop inside the Borders and other restaurants around, but we will be under the gun to get there and register.)

This is short notice, we need to send an email by 12/24 to assure entry.  (Though I will query the TD up there if any others want to join us after that.)  Leave a comment in this thread if you want to participate.
