For those who don’t understand “TLA Speak*” :

The event will be held at Colley’s Chess Cafe. It is a 6 Round tournament (6 games per player in the tournament.) Each week we will play one round (you are playing one game each week for six weeks.)  (The round on January 31, 2010 was postponed by one week due to weather attendance.  This pushed the whole tournament back by a week starting in Round 3, hence six rounds over seven weeks.)   It will be a Swiss System tournament, which is the most common type of chess tournament.  The lowest result of each player will be dropped for prize eligibility, only the top 5 results per player count towards the trophy.

Each player will have 60 minutes on their clock to play all your moves in each game, and each player will have a delay of 5 seconds on each move before the clock starts to count down.

The tournament will be unrated; any person may participate. There is only one section – all participants will compete against each other. The entry fee is $1.00 per round played.

The first place player will receive a trophy, as will the first ranked player under 1200 USCF rating down to unrated, as will the top player under Age 18.  Unrated players are eligible to win any trophy.  One trophy per person.  Names of winners will be on display at the club location.

Arrive to register for the tournament between 7:00 PM and 7:20 PM. (It is highly recommended that you arrive as close to 7:00 as possible.) On each week the games will begin at 7:30 – if you are not present in subsequent weeks or have asked for a bye, it is assumed you are not playing that week. (Typically, each round ends between 9:30 and 10:00 P.M.)

Byes (electing not to play in a round) will only count for zero points.

If you have further questions you may call the Event’s Tournament Director, Darren Erickson, at 309-262-5553.

Tournament will be run in accordance with the USCF Rulebook 5th Edition.

No smoking is allowed inside the building, and computer programs are not allowed to be entered. The facility is wheelchair accessible. We have a Facebook site that you can also check out (use the “Our Facebook Site” button above!)

* – TLA = Tournament Life Announcement, a shorthand way to speak of a tournament announcement (typically placed in the Tournament Life section of Chess Life magazine or online at the USCF website.)
